I don’t normally focus on IT issues, but there is an interesting interview in Academic Impressions with George Spencer, entitled Positioning IT as a Strategic Partner on Campus, where among other things he recommends CIOs spend more time working with faculty and learning technology spending units to help them improve learning outcomes than on network and infrastructure maintenance.

Hi Tony,
I am a big fan of this topic. There is a good body of knowledge on the role of the CIO, and IT driving innovation (Luftman & Venkatraman to name a few). IT definitely plays a key role, at least in K-12 if I can trust my observations.
I’d like to read the article you reference, but the link does not seem to work.
Thanks

Good article and applies quite well to our own realities in high school environments where big schools are concerned and the role of the Schoolboard’s CIO is such a key player in it evolution and use by teachers.
