Wyse Technology (2010) Cloud Computing: Computer Labs Used for 2.5 Million Students in 2500 Schools e-Learning Africa 2011 Newsletter, No. 2, December 15

This article looks at how thin client technology is being used to provide shared services to schools in the province of Gauteng, South Africa.

“This project is delivering a high-speed Internet infrastructure to townships that have never before had such access. In the process we are helping to literally double the number of South African citizens that have Internet access.”

There are many benefits of this thin client technology. In particular, there is a common shared set of software that can be used right across the system, reducing licensing, maintenance and upgrade costs, and providing security within the system.
