The U.K. Association for Learning Technology (ALT) has announced that its journal: Research in Learning Technology is now an open access journal (previously it was published by Taylor and Francis).

ALT is the

‘UK’s leading membership organisation in the learning technology field. Our purpose is to ensure that use of learning technology is effective and efficient, informed by research and practice, and grounded in an understanding of the underlying technologies, their capabilities and the situations into which they are placed.’

Other developments:

  • the journal is published in partnership with the specialist Swedish Open Access publisher Co-Action Publishing
  • the number of Issues will increase each year from three to four, one of which will be a Special Issue. The 2012 Special Issue will be about Digital Inclusion and Learning
  • articles for all issues except special issues and supplements will be published online as soon as they are ready for publication, normally within three weeks of  final acceptance
  • there are no publication fees

Congratulations to ALT for making the move. It may be a little late, but better late than never.
